10th Annual GON Coyote Cull Starts Now

GON Staff | April 30, 2023

Josh Jarrad with a Rabun County coyote he entered last year. Josh won a $1,000 prize from Kenzie’s Optics in the 2022 Coyote Cull drawing.

The GON Coyote Cull expanded two years ago to run a third month through July. Not surprisingly, that extra time and extra chance to enter resulted in a record number of submissions. Who knows, maybe with more support from sportsmen and sponsors, GON can kick the Coyote Cull up another notch in the future. The 10th annual Coyote Cull begins with this May issue and continues through June and July. That’s three chances to enter for any household.

The goal of GON’s Coyote Cull is to raise awareness of the impacts on wildlife from this non-native, invasive species in Georgia. We conduct the Coyote Cull this time of year because fawns and turkey poults are young and extremely vulnerable to coyotes.

We allow one entry per month per household so prizes aren’t all won by commercial trappers or predator-control experts, who are killing plenty of coyotes anyway and getting paid to do it. This is for average sportsmen who want to do something positive about a non-native, invasive species. See entry instructions and details at the bottom of this page. After the July 15 entry deadline, a random drawing will determine who wins the following prizes:

• Vortex Viper PST Gen II Scope: The Vortex Viper PST Gen II 5-25×50 is an updated favorite that hands an unfair advantage to shooters who seek to keep the upper hand in every situation from close quarters to long-range shots. The illumination dial is cleanly integrated into the side focus adjustment knob for easy access and streamlined performance. The glass-etched reticle offers shooters highly functional, intuitive and detailed hold points, yet remains uncluttered for optimal viewing and features 10 intensity levels with off positions between each setting. Rugged construction withstands recoil and impact, and the scope is waterproof and fogproof. This prize provided by Georgia-based Kenzie’s Optics retails for $999.99. Go to kenziesoptics.com.

• CVA Cascade XT Centerfire Rifle: The CASCADE XT (X-Treme) is CVA’s new “precision-oriented” member of the CASCADE family. Several key features make it the perfect multiple purpose rifle for hunters. The heavier No. 5 taper fluted barrel adds stability and improves balance, while also allowing the rapid firing of multiple shots without accuracy loss due to excessive barrel heating. A radial muzzle brake greatly reduces recoil, making the XT very comfortable to shoot both on the range and in the field, even in heavier calibers The XT’s tactical-style bolt knob provides better leverage for faster manipulation of the bolt, especially from the prone position. The suggested retail price of this rifle is $799.99. Visit cva.com/product/cascade-xt for details.

• Trinity Custom Homes $500 Cash Prize: Offering more than 70 customizable home designs, Trinity has helped countless Southerners complete their dream of building on their own land. A longtime GON advertiser, Trinity has sponsored Coyote Cull since day one. For more info, call 888.818.0278 or visit TrinityCustom.com.

• $400 Gift Card At TrapShed.com: TrapShed Supply Co. is a family-run business based in north Georgia. TrapShed is committed to honoring the traditions of the trapping community by providing high-quality baits and lures, a full line of trapping supplies, and by giving each customer personalized service through their intuitive online experience and customer-first mentality.

Long before founding TrapShed Supply Co., founder Dustin Koch had always been fascinated by the wisdom and true grit of trappers. “I was inspired to continue the lost art of trapping and pass it down to my own children, teaching them this unique part of our important American heritage,” Dustin said.

A Coyote Cull entrant will win a $400 gift card for online purchases at TrapShed.com, plus a TrapShed t-shirt and cap. Visit trapshed.com.

How To Enter

The Coyote Cull is designed to be uncomplicated. It’s not a contest to kill the most coyotes or the biggest. There are no check stations. The prizes are simply a great incentive to get folks out right now doing what we should all be doing anyway—taking out some coyotes during the time of year when fawns and turkey poults are being born.

To enter, hunt or trap a coyote, and then email a picture to [email protected] showing the dead coyote and the hunter holding this May 2023 issue of GON, the upcoming June 2023 issue or the July 2023 issue. The email must include hunter’s name, hometown and county where the coyote was taken. There is no entry fee, and you don’t even have to buy the current issue—you can borrow one from a friend. The only reason we require that the hunter hold a current issue is so we know the coyote was killed during this three-month period of the Coyote Cull.

One picture-entry per coyote—your buddy can’t take a picture with your coyote and enter. We will accept entries through July 15. The only rule is a limit of one entry per month, per household. If you enter this month holding the May GON, you (or someone from your household) can enter again the next two months holding the June or July issues. Maximum of three entries per household.

Your entry photo and details can also be mailed to GON Coyote Cull, 4331 Seven Islands Road, Madison, GA 30650. No entries will be valid after July 15. Please call (800) 438-4663 with questions.
