Soque River

Georgia's Soque River has gained fame in trout fishing circles for producing trophy rainbow and brown trout. Almost all of the river is private, although access through commercial fishing lodges is available. Small stretches are public within the Chattahoochee National Forest. A portion of the river is also within the Tray Mountain Wilderness. The Soque River and its watershed are located entirely within the county boundaries of Habersham County in northeast Georgia. The Soque is a tributary of the Chattahoochee River. Portions of the river run along State Route 197.

Chattooga River Trout On The Spring Hatch

After several months of swimming the wintry waters of the Chattooga River delayed harvest (DH), the resident rainbow, brown and brook trout must be elated to see the increasing number of insects the month of March brings. Noontootla Creek Trophy Trout And Quail

Baylee, a Braque Du Bourbonnais the other guides jokingly called a French poodle, was doing his job, methodically working one section of the tall grass and briars with his nose, seeking out…

State Monitoring Chattahoochee Brown Trout

Three years into a five-year effort to determine whether or not a wild-trout fishery is viable in the Chattahoochee River tailwater below Buford Dam, WRD biologists are collecting data that is very promising. WRD Fisheries Biologist Chris Martin recently finished the state’s 2007 fall electrofishing surveys, and even though analysis of the findings will not…

Brook Trout Are Georgia’s Native Gems

“And I thought bass fishermen were secretive about their favorite fishing holes,” was what I thought as I swallowed back the bile working its way up my throat. For those prone to motion sickness, being blindfolded is not the best way to ride in the back of a vehicle careening up a gravel mountain road,…
