Soque River

Georgia's Soque River has gained fame in trout fishing circles for producing trophy rainbow and brown trout. Almost all of the river is private, although access through commercial fishing lodges is available. Small stretches are public within the Chattahoochee National Forest. A portion of the river is also within the Tray Mountain Wilderness. The Soque River and its watershed are located entirely within the county boundaries of Habersham County in northeast Georgia. The Soque is a tributary of the Chattahoochee River. Portions of the river run along State Route 197.

DNR Budget Crunch Threatens WMAs, Hatchery

When state revenue figures for August were posted showing a 7 percent drop from the same period last year, there were those who hoped that perhaps WRD could skimp by with only a slight cut in people and programs this year and next. Perhaps this most recent financial storm could be weathered without too much…

A Kid’s Summer Fishing Tour

For a lot of kids summer means playing outside with friends, going to the local swimming pool and heading indoors to beat the heat with a little video-game action. Unfortunately, video games have taken over as the No. 1 summer activity for kids. Couple that with the fact that fewer kids have access to good…
