Lake Weiss Fishing Report – October 2023

By GON Staff | September 27, 2023

Weiss: Level: 0.2 feet below 564. Temp: 78-80 degrees. Clarity: Light stain. Multiple Species: Guide Mark Collins reports, “Bass fishing is good, and some have started moving shallow in the bays on secondary points. Creek and river channel ledges are still producing using Carolina rigs and crankbaits. Crappie fishing is fair, and they are on the creek and river channel ledges and deeper brush. They can be caught spider rigging with live minnows over deep brush. Shooting docks with jigs is also producing some fish, Look for the crappie to really start biting as the water cools down. Striper fishing is good, and they are being caught in Little River and the Chattooga River on live shad downlined and freelined. Catfish are biting good in the bays and creeks in 8 to 15 feet of water. Cutbait is working best.” For more on fishing with Mark, go to www.markcollinsguideservice.com/home.html. Lake…

Spider-Rigging For Lake Weiss Cold-Water Crappie

Sometimes it’s easy to forget how the cold can cut you to the bone, but there was no time to worry about that. I was standing on the deck of a Triton boat, right foot crossed over left with the butt of a 16-foot B&M rod wedged between my knees. In my right hand, which was…

Weiss Bass on the Fall Flats

That would make five days in a row of sweltering 100-degree heat. It was mid August, and we were in the firm grip of one of the worst sustained heat waves…

Weiss Fishing Reports – August 2007

Level: 3.5 feet below full. Temp: 85 degrees. Clarity: Some stain. Bass: John Boggs said the low lake level in August is probably going to hurt the people fishing the banks, but for the ledge fishermen — like himself — it congregates the fish. “A lot of the fish have pulled out of the coves…

May Options For Weiss Bass

Spring fishing on Lake Weiss generally brings to mind slow trolling for huge slab crappie. Anglers from all over the country have long come to this impoundment of the Coosa River to experience a haven for the “papermouth.” For all of its crappie fame, this shallow reservoir along the Georgia/Alabama border is often overlooked when…

Long-line Trolling For Weiss Slabs

Lake Weiss fishing guide Kelly Matthews fishes for crappie year round. During the summer, he catches crappie off more than 70 deep brushpiles he has put out. During the winter he uses a bottom-bumping minnow rig to pull slabs from the river-channel ledges. Spring, however, is the time of year he looks forward to, and…
