Weiss: Level: 0.2 feet below 564. Temp: 78-80 degrees. Clarity: Light stain. Multiple Species: Guide Mark Collins reports, “Bass fishing is good, and some have started moving shallow in the bays on secondary points. Creek and river channel ledges are still producing using Carolina rigs and crankbaits. Crappie fishing is fair, and they are on the creek and river channel ledges and deeper brush. They can be caught spider rigging with live minnows over deep brush. Shooting docks with jigs is also producing some fish, Look for the crappie to really start biting as the water cools down. Striper fishing is good, and they are being caught in Little River and the Chattooga River on live shad downlined and freelined. Catfish are biting good in the bays and creeks in 8 to 15 feet of water. Cutbait is working best.” For more on fishing with Mark, go to www.markcollinsguideservice.com/home.html. Lake…

Getting out on the lake at 3 a.m. to catch bait for the morning striped-bass bite can be a daunting proposition when it’s warm out. In January, when frigid temperatures can freeze a cast net solid to the deck of the boat, netting bait is downright unpleasant. The good news for striper anglers on Lake…
Regardless of the season, long-time pro Terry Tucker, of Gadsden, Ala., likes to fish shallow for big bass on Weiss Lake. On a recent trip, in blistering triple-digit temperatures, he boated what would have amounted to a near 20-lb. tournament sack while flipping a variety of shallow cover. If a sack like that is possible…
