Lake Eufaula
Lake Eufaula, also known as Walter F. George Lake, named for the United States Senator from Georgia, is formed on the Chattahoochee River along the state line between Alabama and Georgia. Eufaula has long been a great fishing lake, especially for largemouth bass. The town of Eufaula, Ala. is home to Mann's Bait Company and Humminbird Electronics. The 46,000-acre U.S. Army Corps of Engineers lake extends north about 85 miles from the Walter F. George Lock and Dam and has approximately 640 miles of shoreline.

The reports were as varied as the weather this week. The best reports came from ponds and the Okefenokee Swamp. Saltwater was hit-and-miss. The southeast Georgia rivers are still high but are falling now that the leaves have budded out and the trees are pulling more water. St. Marys River: The Temple Landing is currently closed while the WRD boat ramp crew rebuilds the ramp. The ramp itself is complete, and the crew is working to improve the parking area. The project is winding down, and it should reopen in early April if weather and river levels cooperate (which they are currently not doing). Okefenokee Swamp: Mike and Matt Rouse fished the east side of the Okefenokee on Saturday in the cool, super-windy weather and still caught fish. They had a few warmouth and fliers on black sparkle/chartreuse Warmouth Whacker Jigs. They also caught a couple bowfin by flinging crawfish-brass…

We met at the Cool Branch Park boat ramp just south of Georgetown on a recent cold, clear morning. Captain Ryan Nix was waiting and ready to go as my friend Diz and I pulled up. Ryan has made a living on the water, retiring from the U.S Coast Guard after 20 years of honorable…

When Will Baker drew a Zone 1 tag for Georgia’s gator season, he had high hopes that he’d be able to harvest an above-average gator, but little did he know that a much larger train was coming down the tracks. “I drew my first tag way back in 2014 and managed to harvest a nice,…
For some fishermen, locating and catching quality largemouth in extreme heat is a psychological game. They develop a mental block about the state of bass fishing in the doldrums of summer and frequently struggle once the air and water temperatures reach their peak. For Columbus angler Dr. John Lee, the psychology works just the opposite.…
