Lake Burton

Lake Burton is a 2,775-acre Georgia Power Co. reservoir located in the northeast corner of Georgia in Rabun County. Burton offers very good bass fishing, and it also has a unique fishery for reservoir trout. The lake is lined with exclusive homes. It is the first lake in a six-lake series of small reservoirs on the Tallulah River. The chain begins with Lake Burton as the northernmost lake followed by Seed, Rabun, Tallulah Falls, Tugalo and Yonah.

Burton: Level: 1.3 feet below 1866.66. Temp: 70 degrees. Clarity: Clear. Bass: Guide Wes Carlton of Georgia Lake Fishing guide service reports, “The bass bite has been good the last few days. We have caught fish all over the lake. Shallow seems to be the better bite right now. We have been casting topwater plugs and Zoom Super Flukes in pearl in and around brushpiles and rock outcroppings along the seawalls. The herring spawn has been good this year. The next few weeks will be a good time to fish with a Sebile Magic Swimmer in white or the halo greenie color. Try fishing seawalls on the main-lake channel. This bite should continue to be strong until the water temps get into the low 70s and 80s.”  Trout: Guide Wes Carlton reports, “The brown trout bite has been a little slow for the bigger fish the last week or so.…
