Lake Weiss Fishing Reports – February 2021

GON Staff | January 29, 2021

Weiss: Level: 5 feet below full pool. Temp: Mid to upper 40s. Clarity: Light stain.

Bass: Guide and tournament pro Mike Carter reports, “Weiss is at its winter pool level. This low level can create some hazardous navigating, but it can also create some very productive bass fishing action. The lake has a light stain, and water temps in the mid to upper 40s. Covering areas from mid lake to the lower end with Echo and MR6 crankbaits is a very consistent pattern during this time. Looking for the areas that consist of rocky and stumpy points with deeper water nearby will be the ticket to finding the more aggressive schools of quality fish. This is also a great time with the lower water levels to get out and mark some quality structure for spring and summer fishing. Looking for the stumps and rocks can help tremendously, especially for the tournament anglers. The lake is low so use caution, but don’t miss out on the bass fishing action this lake can produce with the winter months.”

Guide Mark Collins reports, “Bass fishing is fair. Most fish are still on a winter pattern on the creek and river channel ledges. Spinnerbaits and crankbaits are working well, and jigs and Carolina rigs are catching fish, also.”

Crappie: Guide Mark Collins reports, “Crappie fishing is good. They are being caught long-line trolling with Jiffy Jigs. Most Weiss crappie are suspended in the river and creek channels 7 to 9 feet deep. Some fish are still being caught spider rigging with minnows on the channel ledges.”
