Lake Weiss Fishing Report – May 2021

GON Staff | April 29, 2021

Weiss: Level: 0.6 feet below full pool. Temp: Low to mid 60s. Clarity: Stained.

Bass: Guide and tournament pro Mike Carter reports, “Weiss has turned on this past week, and this great bassin’ action should continue for the rest of April and throughout the month of May. Most of the fish have begun to spawn, and there are still a lot of fish moving in to spawn. The action has gotten aggressive with Choo Choo Swim Jigs and Shakers along the dead grass and areas of new grass. The lake level has dropped back down a few inches below summer pool, and the water temps are averaging in the low to mid 60s. This is a great time to get out and enjoy some fantastic spring fishing.” Guide Mark Collins reports, “Bass fishing is fair. The warmer weather has turned the bite on, and a lot of fish have moved shallow into the spawning bays and creeks. Shallow-running crankbaits and spinnerbaits are working well. Some fish are starting to bed.”

Crappie: Guide Mark Collins reports, “The crappie fishing is fair, as many of the fish are spawning right now and you need to find them on shallow flats. Jiffy Jigs, JJ13,JJ17 and JJ20 are the colors that have been catching fish for me. They have moved into shallow water with the flooding.”
