Lake Weiss Fishing Report May 2018

GON Staff | April 27, 2018

Weiss: Level: 0.1 feet below full pool. Temp: Low 60s. Clarity: Moderate stain.

Bass: Guide and tournament angler Mike Carter reports, “Weiss is getting ready to be wide open with some solid bass-fishing action. When this lake gets turned on, get ready for some consistent fish-catching action. The Weiss bass have moved up to spawn, and even though the recent weather and low lake level conditions have slowed this process down a little, you can look for it to pick back up with better weather conditions and the lake getting up to its summer pool level. With this the action can be very aggressive and just dang fun. The main patterns during this time is taking Choo Choo Lures shakers, swimjigs and spinnerbaits and covering a lot of grassy banks and stump flats looking for the bass that have moved up to spawn. The topwater bite will also improve with warmer weather, and this can make for some exciting action with some aggressive Coosa River spots along deeper seawalls and points early in the mornings and late evenings with Spooks and Pop-Rs. This is a very productive time for Weiss Lake, so get out and enjoy what this lake has to offer in some solid bass-fishing action.”

Crappie: Guide Mark Collins reports, “Crappie fishing is fair. They are spawning, and a lot have spawned over the past week. They are being caught long-line trolling with Jiffy Jigs in colors JJ01, JJ08, JJ13, JJ17, JJ20, JJ31 and Marks blue. Shooting docks is producing fish. Spider rigging on deeper cover near spawning areas is also producing fish.”
