Lake Weiss Fishing Report – March 2019

GON Staff | February 26, 2019

Weiss: Level:6.9 feet high. Temp: Mid 50s to 60. Clarity: Moderate stain.

Bass: Capt. Mike Carter reports, “Weiss Lake has been an extreme up and down fiasco the past couple of months, and it seems it just keeps on going. The previous and current hard rains has had the lake levels up and down constantly, and now with even more rain, the lake could easily reach flood stage. The most common patterns for bass during this time is to cover a lot of water. Moving into the backs of creeks looking for the shallow structure has been the ticket for some consistent success. The most common lures have been with Choo Choo Shakers and spinnerbaits and focusing on water run-offs and laydowns in these areas. One can also not be surprised that if the lake floods over full pool that even fishing up in the woods and brushy areas can get some quality action. With these rains and flooded conditions, the fish will be looking for new food that gets washed in from the banks and wooded areas, and the spinnerbaits and shakers can help in presenting your bait around the thick brushy areas with less chance of hanging up as one would with other types of exposed hook-type baits. There is lot of water now, and the lake will keep fluctuating but getting out and coversing a lot of the areas I just mentioned can help in getting some consistent action on Lake Weiss this month.”
