Lake Weiss Fishing Report – April 2020

GON Staff | March 26, 2020

Weiss: Level: 2 feet below full pool. Temp:  Low to mid 60s. Clarity: Moderate stain.

Bass: Guide and tournament pro Mike Carter reports, “Weiss has been a tough cookie this year, but now with the warmer conditions and more stable weather the fishing should really pick up. This is the time of year that the bass will start making their move up shallow and become more aggressive with their feeding patterns. There are several patterns that can produce some great action in these areas, and that includes using Echo Squarebills, Rat-L-Traps, Choo Choo Lures Shakers and spinnerbaits. Have several rods on the deck to give them all a try until you find out which will produce the most action that day. Try to focus on shallow docks and stump-filled pockets for the fish that will be moving up to spawn. The water temps are coming up, and Weiss bass are getting more aggressive, so get out and enjoy it!” Guide Mark Collins reports, “Bass fishing is fair. A lot of bass are being caught on culverts and anywhere there is fresh water running into the lake.”

Crappie: Fair. Guide Mark Collins reports, “Weiss crappie are being caught longline trolling in Bay Springs and Little River, Yellow Creek, Ball Play Creek and Three Mile Creek. Jiffy Jigs in colors JJ13, JJ17, JJ24, JJ28 and Marks special blue are working well.”
