Lake Jackson Fishing Report – May 2024

GON Staff | May 2, 2024

Jackson: Level: 0.8 feet above 528. Temp: 75-78 degrees. Clarity: Light stain.

Bass: Tournament angler Willie McMullen reports that May is a great month on Jackson. It’s the tail end of the shad and bass spawns, so early in the month you can try those patterns. All month long be on the lookout for bream beds, and fish a topwater popper or flutter bait over them if they are active with spawning bream. First thing in the morning, cast a Sammy, Rico or Gunfish topwater on seawalls for bass feeding there. Make sure your bait hits right beside the wall, the closer the better. Later in the day, chase shade. Find wood on shady banks and work it with a Spro popping frog and flip a Texas-rigged Big Baits Fighting Frog around it. Also try a wacky-rigged stick bait on shady wood if the bite is slow.
