Lake Jackson Fishing Report – July 2023

GON Staff | June 29, 2023

Jackson: Level: 1.3 feet below 530. Temp: Upper 70s to low 80s. Clarity: Muddy in the South and Yellow rivers, the Alcovy and Tussahaw Creek have a light stain.

Bass: Tournament angler Willie McMullen reports that Jackson is pretty much unfishable from 10 a.m. until after dark on the weekends. The night bite has been hit and miss with a few fish caught over brushpiles on big crankbaits like the DT10-16 and 5XD and 6XD.  The mayfly hatch has been very inconsistent this year. If you can find the flies, you should be able to catch some bass on poppers or small jigs. First thing in the  morning, work a Sammy or Gunfish around deeper seawalls. Also, try deeper brush with the big plugs mentioned above. Deeper blowdowns will hold some fish, so try to work your deep-running crankbait through them and follow up with a big redbug Texas-rigged Ol’ Monster.”
