Lake Jackson Fishing Report July 2013

GON Staff | June 26, 2013

Jackson: Level: 0.7 feet above full pool. Temp: Upper 70s. Clarity: Stained.

Bass:
Slow. Eric Perkins reports, “Fishing is pretty tough right now. It’s getting to the point where you’re better off going at night. There is a little bit of an early morning topwater bite right at daylight on the main lake. You can run-and-gun as fast as you can on main-lake walls and catch a few good fish, but it ends very quickly. Sammys, Spook Jrs and Ricos have all been good. I like a shad pattern with a white belly and a white feather. If you’re lucky enough to find a good mayfly hatch, you can catch some good fish on them also. I like a Net Boy Baits 1/2-oz. brown flipping jig with a green-pumpkin chunk. I will also throw a black/brown ChatterBait and some topwater on a bug hatch. After that, it gets pretty tough. You can go out on the main lake deep and catch a few on a shaky head finesse worm and a big plug, but it’s slow. That big-plug bite is better right at dark and after dark for me. I still like a DD22 in lavender shad and a Strike King 6XD in chartreuse shad and the old trusty Bagley DB3 in Tennessee shad. It’s about time to start seeing some stripers and hybrids on top. Keep a popping cork ready or any type of popping-style bait ready for schooling activity.”
