Lake Jackson Fishing Report – December 2009

GON Staff | November 25, 2009

Jackson: Level: 0.5 feet below full pool. Temp: Mid to high 50s. Clarity: Stained up the river; slight stain near the dam.

Bass: Eric Perkins reports, “With the recent heavy rains the boards tripped at the dam, and they let the lake way back down for the second time. Fishing is always great on Jackson when the water is down or falling. The rains also left a good stain all over, which made the shallow cranking bite even better. In December we usually only need two baits — a jig and a crankbait. Cover as much water as possible with a shallow- to medium-running crankbait. Shad Raps, flat baits and Rat-L-Traps, or Spro’s Aruku Shad, are my favorites, as well as Model A Bombers and 300 Bandits. As far as the jig goes, I like casting a Net Boy Finesse Jig with a Zoom Pro Chunk in December. If we have some warmer weather, I will go right back shallow in the 5-foot or shallower range flipping and pitching the Crazy Bug by Wackem Crazy Baits and a Net Boy Flipping Jig to shallow wood and rock in the creeks and pockets. Let the color of the water dictate what color you use.”
