Lake Jackson Fishing Report – August 2024

GON Staff | August 1, 2024

Jackson: Level: 0.8 over 528. Temp: High 80s to low 90s. Clarity: Clear to slightly stained from heavy rains.

Bass: Tournament angler Willie McMullen reports that the fishing is tough. Another heavy storm will stain it back up and make a current that will help.  Some of the rains generate a mayfly hatch, but the bass can be hit or miss even with bluegill present. Mornings are best before boat traffic. For spotted bass, hit deeper rock banks and seawalls early with a Chug Bug or Sammy. The Whopper Plopper will be getting better and better. Stay on the trolling motor and make fast casts with topwater covering water for feeding fish. For largemouth, a black buzzbait will draw more strikes around wood. Also, try a Spro popping frog around any wood. Shaky heads will catch fish on deeper docks, especially those with brush. The fall drawdown will make for a better bite than full pool. The more the water is down the better the bite.
