Lake Jackson Fishing Report — April 9, 2024

Ronnie Garrison | April 9, 2024

Long-time GON writer and author of the Map-of-the-Month article series won a club tournament on Lake Jackson over the weekend.

Jackson: Level: 0.9 feet above 528. Temp: 62-66 degrees. Clarity: Heavy stain from mouth of Tussahaw Creek to the dam.

Bass: Ronnie Garrison with the Flint River Bass Club reports, “I won with five weighing 9.74 pounds and had big fish with a 2.78-lb. largemouth. We started at 7 a.m., and by 8:30 I had three largemouth and a spot. I caught them all on a 3/8-oz. gold-bladed chartreuse/blue/white skirted spinnerbait. The big one hit by a dock float on a throw-away cast as I went around it and was just keeping my bait wet, but the others hit on seawalls. At 9, I caught a skinny, 13-inch spot on the spinnerbait and then culled it with a bigger spot that hit a shaky-head worm around 10.

“I think males were fanning or guarding beds. Twice I felt a thump on the spinnerbait and missed but cast right back and caught 2-lb. male bass. The water was too stained to see beds.

“Chuck Croft had five bass at 6.41 pounds, and said he caught them on a combination of a spinnerbait and weightless Flukes. Zane Fleck was third with five at 5.51 pounds, and said he got on a pattern of skipping shaky heads under overhanging bushes.

“By noon, we were reminded why we seldom fish Jackson in warm weather. Wake and surf boats have no regard for others or for no-wake zones, even at Wallace Dam Recreation Area ramp. One boat driver seemed to thrill in making a hard turn right outside the no wake zone at the ramp, making it difficult to load our boats. I wish DNR rangers would pay attention to it.”
