Lake Eufaula Fishing Report – September 2024
GON Staff | August 28, 2024
Eufaula: Level: 0.7 feet above 188. Temp: 91. Clarity: Clear to a perfect stain.
Bass: Capt. Sam Williams, of Hawks Fishing Guide Service, reports, “The cooler days are making it more desirable to be on the water longer on the morning trips, giving you more time to work on finding a pattern that works. River fishing can be challenging, especially during this time of year. The shad are still hatching and the fish are full and healthy. The water is cooling off some, so the fish are getting back to their active lifestyle. The morning bite is improving, especially topwater on the shoreline vegetation cover. Frogs are picking up. If they are just playing with it and not really striking seriously, throw a fluke or a floating Senko back on them. They will not leave the area if you have not set up on them. Texas rigs and jigs with soft plastics will work in these areas. Watermelon candy, junebug and your favorite greens are good colors. Deeper bass are hitting deep-running lipped baits, with threadfin shad patterns working best. Carolina rigs with big, dark worms do well on the deeper ledges and structure. Heavy jigs with larger creature baits are also good. Work the schooling shad with lipless crankbaits, shallow-running lipped baits and jerkbaits. The smaller fish will be shallow in these schools. Work your lipless bait slower, let it sink some and get down to where the larger fish are settled in.”
Multiple Species: Capt. Sam Williams, of Hawks Fishing Guide Service, reports, “Crappie are getting a little more active in the cooler water. They are still on the natural structure and man-made trashpiles. Minnows and jigs are the baits to use. The shad have grown large enough now that jigs are OK. Panfish are on the shoreline cover. Crickets and wigglers are what they like to dine on. Catfish are in the creeks. Jugs are really fun and keep plenty of action going to keep the youngsters excited and interested longer than sitting and waiting on a bite. Those bottom fishing enthusiasts will do well on the creek ledges with cutbait or crawlers. The Lee King Memorial Benefit Tournament website is under repair, but we will be back up soon. We plan to get our March and September tournaments back on track to support the research efforts for the terminal Niemann-Pick children. School is back in, but there is still time to take the young ’uns fishing and create the memories your family will talk about for generations. Pray for our folks in uniform and their families as they go out daily to keep us safe. Pray for AMERICA folks, we need GOD to fix what is broken. Love one another like Jesus loves us.”
