Lake Chatuge Fishing Report – October 2023
GON Staff | September 27, 2023
Chatuge: Level: 3.3 feet below 1925. Temp: 78-80 degrees. Clarity: Clear.
Bass: Guide Eric Welch, of Welch’s Guide Service, reports, “Fishing has been good. If you get a sunny day, you’re going to see some good topwater action, that is if you’re in the right location. I’ve been keeping a Berkley Cane Walker and a Lucky Craft Gunfish tied on. I’ve had a couple of mornings when once the sun popped out, they went to blowing up, and the clouds rolled in and the topwater bite was over. If it’s sunny, the herring baitfish will school in big pods, but if cloudy, they go deeper and will scatter. I will also keep a couple of swimbaits tied on, like a Strike King 3.25-inch Rage Swimmer and a Sebile. However, I’m still marking a lot of fish deep. I’ve been catching fish out in ditches and offshore structures while using my electronics and the Garmin Livescope. To catch these fish, I’m throwing a shaky head, drop shot and a Yum Sonar Minnow on a 1/4-oz. swimbait head. You can also fish the laydowns with a jig and a Texas rig. Also, if you’ve never fished it before, try throwing the double fluke rig. With the weather changing, we should start seeing the bite get better every week. Good luck.”
