Lake Chatuge Fishing Report – October 2019

GON Staff | September 24, 2019

Chatuge: Level: 4.5 feet below full pool. Temp: 81-82 degrees. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Guide Eric Welch reports, “Fishing has been totally different than this time last year. Last year, we were already on a killer topwater bite, but with the crazy weather and hot days, the topwater bite has just not started. I’m keeping topwater plugs tied on and on the deck of the boat in case I run into any blow-ups, but they’ve been far and few. With the water temp still in the 80s, the baitfish are still hanging around the 25- to 30-foot mark, and the bass are scattered. I’ve been fishing a drop shot and shaky head around docks, points and breaks. There has not been a real pattern, but some would just call it junk fishing. Keep an eye on your electronics, and when you mark some fish, you can catch them on a drop shot if you drop it on their head. It’s just a waiting game. It’s going to turn on real soon, and when it does, be ready to catch some of those big north Georgia spots. Good luck.”
