Lake Chatuge Fishing Report – May 2020

GON Staff | April 30, 2020

Chatuge: Level: 1.5 feet low. Temp: 61-63 degrees. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Guide Eric Welch reports, “The spotted bass are in their spawning areas on long rocky points, pebble rocky banks and in between docks. I’ve been catching them on a Z-Man Ned rig, a 3.5-inch tube and a Strike King Rage Craw on a shaky head. When they get done spawning, they will move to cover or around docks for a week or so to guard the fry before leaving them. When this happens, try a topwater lure, fluke and Trick Worm. Largemouth are trying to spawn. They are around the backs of pockets and any type of cover in 3 feet of water. Try a 3.25-inch Strike King Rage Swimmer on a 1/8-oz. head, a swim jig in bluegill or anything you can to fish around the bed. By the end of the month, you can catch them on drop shots deep, flukes and shaky heads around docks. On windy days, try a spinnerbait.”
