Lake Chatuge Fishing Report May 2018

GON Staff | April 27, 2018

Chatuge: Level: 2.5 feet low. Temp: 62-64 degrees. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Guide Eric Welch reports, “The fishing is real good. If you’re looking to catch numbers, the spotted bass are biting. I’ve been targeting long, sloped bank lines that have small chuck rock in depths of 6 to 18 feet. The baits that have been working best is a 6.5 finesse worm on a shaky head, a 3.5 tube and a Texas-rig finesse green pumpkin. I like to use 7-lb. Gamma Touch fluorocarbon line, so you can feel them pick it up as they try moving it away from their beds. We’ve also been catching largemouth bass around docks and wood throwing the same types of baits. If you have a day when the wind is not blowing, you will see some largemouth bass cruising around the backs of pockets and creeks. Try a fluke or a swimbait. When the spawn is over, start looking around wood and docks for bass that are guarding fry.”
