Lake Chatuge Fishing Report – June 2024

GON Staff | May 29, 2024

Chatuge: Level: 0.6 above 1925. Temp: 72-74 degrees. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Guide Eric Welch, of Welch’s Guide Service, “Fishing has been good. The spawn is over, and the bass have started moving out to their summertime patterns offshore and around the brush and deep docks. I’m going to start my mornings throwing a topwater lure, like a Gunfish, Whopper Plopper and a Cane Walker. I’m going to throw these around brush, long points, humps and flats that have a ditch or access to deep water. You will definitely want to keep one of these topwater baits on the deck at all times. You never know when they’re going to start chasing and busting bait. Once the sun gets up, I’m going to target humps with brush, laydowns, points and rocky, deep banks. Many baits will catch you fish. A lot of the time it’s the bait you feel most confident in. I’m going to throw a drop shot with a 6-inch Roboworm in morning dawn, and a shaky head and a Texas rig with a Zoom green-pumpkin worm. If I’m just going to target laydowns and docks, I like to throw a white ChatterBait and a 3/8-oz. green-pumpkin jig. Don’t ever forget a Zoom Fluke on any lake that has blueback herring as its primary food source. If you have a windy day, try throwing a 1/2-oz. War Eagle spinnerbait and maybe a crankbait. Good luck.”
