Lake Chatuge Fishing Report – April 2007

GON Staff | March 26, 2007

Chatuge: Level: 6.9 feet below full pool. Temp: Mid 50s on the main lake; 58-60 back in the pockets. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Mountain-lake fishing guide Nathan Lewis said Chatuge is red hot right now. A recent fishing tournament on the lake was won with five largemouths that weighed 27.15 pounds. The angler was Heath Pack of Morganton. Nathan said he has been catching 15 to 30 fish a day with a Shad Rap being a primary bait. He caught a 5.4-lb. spot recently, and a 7 1/2-lb. largemouth. The largemouth hit a spinnerbait on wood back in a pocket. “The spots have moved up on main-lake points, and they are starting to filter back into the pockets.” Nathan thinks some of the spots will be on bed on the April 2 full moon. If you are targeting largemouths, Nathan recommends slowing down with a jig ’n pig, worm or a spinnerbait on wood structure back in the pockets.
