Lake Blackshear Fishing Report – October 2024

GON Staff | September 25, 2024

Blackshear: Level: Full at 237. Temp: 78 degrees. Clarity: Stained.

Bass: Tournament angler Chris Gray reports, “As much as I love to chase whitetail deer in the month of October, bass fishing at Lake Blackshear might just be higher on my priority list. With the water temps dropping down into the high 70s, and a record mayfly hatch happening, the bass are feeding heavily getting ready for the winter. A couple of my favorite ways to capitalize on this are a topwater popping-style frog early in the morning and a ChatterBait once the sun gets up. I like white for the color of each bait. Focus on seawalls with bushes hanging over water because the mayflies will be on the bushes. Bluegill will be up feeding on the mayflies, and the bass should be lurking close waiting for a chance at a bluegill breakfast. After the sun gets up, fish your ChatterBait around grass. The shad should start migrating to the backs of the pockets, and the bass should be following them, as well. Watch for schooling activity throughout the day. October is a great month for bass fishing on Blackshear.”
