Lake Blackshear Fishing Report – November 2024

GON Staff | October 30, 2024

Blackshear: Level: Full at 237. Temp: 74 degrees. Clarity: Stained.

Bass: Tournament angler Chris Gray reports, “The bass fishing is starting to stabilize again after the Crisp County Power Commission dropped the lake about 5 feet at the beginning of October due to all of the rain from Hurricane Helene. Without much rain since then, the water clarity and bite have both continued to improve. Some of the same patterns from October will continue to be relevant in November. I’ve been having a great time in the mornings throwing a popping frog around grass and seawalls. This tends to generate a quality bite of a 3-lb. fish every time. After the sun gets above the trees, I start to focus on shaded docks and cypress trees in the backs of sloughs. I target these with a Texas-rigged creature bait, such as Big Bite Baits Fighting Frog or a Zoom Baby Brush Hog. I’ve been having a lot of luck, as well, with a black-and-blue, 1/4-oz. Bitsy Bug finesse jig. A silver-and-white ChatterBait fished around the same docks and cypress trees has been producing good numbers. As we get closer to December, a squarebill crankbait will be a bait to start throwing more.”

Catfish: Chris Gray reports, “With the water cooling down, the catfish bite has been on fire lately. My dad and brother-in-law caught about 25 eating-size channel catfish on Oct. 19 using nightcrawlers and frozen shrimp. I was told they really didn’t prefer one bait over the other, and they were caught tight-lining on sandy flats near the 280 bridge in about 8 feet of water. For bigger channel catfish and flatheads, use live bream. Smaller green sunfish seem to work the best. Good luck!”
