Lake Blackshear Fishing Report – July 2024

GON Staff | June 27, 2024

Blackshear: Level: Full pool at 237. Temp: 85-88 degrees. Clarity: Light stain.

Bass: Tournament angler Chris Gray reports, “Bass fishing has been really tough the last couple of weeks. This June has been one of the hottest I can remember in a long time. Most fish have moved offshore into deeper water on channel ledges and brushpiles. Blackshear is a relatively shallow lake, so when I say deeper water, I mean anywhere from 10 to 20 feet. One bait that’s been working lately targeting these fish has been a Texas-rigged Zoom Ol’ Monster worm. Slowly drag it along the bottom. If you feel like you’re dragging it too slow, slow down some more. The fish have been very lethargic after the sun comes up. Your best bet is to go out a couple of hours before sunrise and fish deeper dock lights with a crankbait. My favorite is a Strike King 3XD in chartreuse sexy shad. Once it starts breaking day, you can still catch a few fish up shallow with a popping frog or a buzzbait. Stay hydrated, and good luck!”
