Lake Blackshear Fishing Report – January 2025

GON Staff | December 25, 2024

Blackshear: Level: Full at 237. Temp: 55 degrees. Clarity: Muddy.

Bass: Tournament angler Chris Gray reports, “The fishing has been a bit tough lately with the lake coming up from the winter drawdown. The water is muddy with debris present. Fish are scattered and really hard to pattern. In this type of scenario, most people would slow down, but I try to cover water fairly quickly. Target blowdowns and rocky banks with a Colorado blade spinnerbait in chartreuse or chartreuse/white with gold blades. The Colorado blades give off more vibration, and that helps a lot in the muddy water. The fish will be hanging tight close to the blowdowns and rocks trying to stay warm. You can also try a shallow squarebill crankbait, like a Strike King 1.5, in chartreuse or crawfish colors. I’d stay down near the dam in Swift Creek. The water doesn’t seem to be as muddy, and it’s a little warmer down there. Happy New Year!
