Blackshear Bass Fishing Report – Sept. 3, 2024

Aggressive bass starting to eat on top.

Chris Gray | September 3, 2024

This small shoal bass hit a topwater bait in the mid-lake area on Sunday, Sept. 1.

Blackshear: Level: Full at 237. Temp: 83 degrees. Clarity: Stained.

With it being Labor Day weekend, we stayed with my parents at their house on Lake Blackshear on the Sumter County side. I went out on my boat early Sunday morning before the wife and kids started stirring and had a great time. I stayed in the area I call “mid-lake” between the 280 bridge and Cedar Creek. Within an hour I caught eight keeper largemouth with a few of them pushing the 3-lb. range. I also caught a beautiful surprise little shoal bass that crushed my buzzbait as soon as it hit the water near a seawall. I didn’t fish long after the sun got up, but I wanted to share that they are eating topwater aggressively early in the morning.
