National Forest Hunters Still Lose With New Closing Date
Dear GON,
I just looked at 2015-16 deer season closing dates. Even with the statewide Jan. 10 season closing date, the deer season closes Dec. 26 on the Chattahoochee National Forest. Unless you are one of the lucky few who have private land in north Georgia, the season will now end a week earlier than last year’s Jan. 1. It looks like the Northern and Southern Zone deer hunters each lost a week with the new statewide closing date.
I called DNR and was told this was no mistake or misprint. All deer hunters in the state lost a week.

GON Youth Big-Buck Contest Encourages Hunting

Daniel Cannon in the GON Truck-Buck Youth Shoot Out.
Dear GON,
I would like to thank GON for the opportunity for my son Daniel Cannon to participate in GON Youth Shoot-Out. He had a great time and is eager to hunt hard for another shot this coming season. Thanks to the staff for running a good magazine and for promoting hunting, fishing and the outdoors in a positive manner and also recognizing kids. This is important to the future of our sport.
