Time To Bring Up Northern Zone Baiting Again

Dear GON,

It is time once again for me to contact you about the Georgia law on hunting over bait. I still feel it is necessary to correct the current law that splits Georgia between north and south. The law should be statewide!

Between old DNR and GON surveys, it’s apparent that a majority of hunters favor statewide baiting. I, and many other Georgia hunters and voters, believe the hunters in north Georgia deserve the same laws as well as any hunters in south Georgia. There should not be any difference, not in the length of the season, not in baiting issues, not in any other issues.

I am asking GON readers to contact the necessary people during this legislation session and help make steps to change the law so that hunting over bait is legal statewide.

South Georgia Hunters Need Extended Season

Dear GON,

Our rut in southwest Georgia is being missed because the season closes entirely too early. Most years it’s not until late January when mature bucks are on their feet pushing mature does.

When hunting regulations are made, I feel that our area is being overlooked, and most decisions are being based on what goes on in the northern part of the state.

A group of hunters in Decatur County are trying to band together and get the word out about this through social media and surveys.

While the Georgia legislature is in, now is a great time to contact your local legislators about extending our deer season in southwest Georgia.

Great Fall Fiction Series

Dear GON,

After reading GON’s Fall Fiction Series, I felt compelled to write and share the enjoyment I received by reading this year’s story.

I found the story to be exciting and inspiring, and I hated to see it end. The way the author kept the story going years after the hunt was a tremendous, heart-warming story end.

This new author did a fantastic job, and I hope he has another opportunity to write for GON.

This is the first time I have written a comment about anything.

GON Instagram: Victor Simental (Instagram name hardcorevic) killed this buck in Albany one day before the season went out. “A friend and I were walking back to the truck, and this beast was alone in the field. We crawled up about 10 yards, and then I moved forward another 10. I stayed knelt down and smoked him,” said Victor.
