Great Job On Turkey Article

Dear GON,

GON has always had great writers and staff. Always. There has been a tradition of great writing and great stories.

However, the story published by DDJ (Donald Devereaux Jarrett) in the February 2024 issue of GON called “Finding Memories” is definitely one of the very best ever, in my opinion.

I found myself stretching out how long it was going to take me to finish it. It was that good. I wanted to savor the story. Anyone who grew up in their father’s footsteps in these magnificent Georgia woods cannot help but have genuine admiration and appreciation for Donald and for what his father did for him. Thank you for your great staff writers and guest writers. Thank you for the best outdoors magazine available anywhere.

A Storm Is Coming!

Dear GON,

This old deer hunter agrees with your editorial in the February issue of GON that said a storm is coming.

I have long sensed that something big is underway. It is true that my old bones can tell you when a change in the “weather” is coming. I truly believe that from a lifetime of being a Georgia sportsman that later generations will not get to enjoy the things we have done and the way of life we enjoy with hunting, fishing and gun ownership. Look around you and see the changes all around.

We want our children and their children to enjoy the sport we love. At 83 this year, I know I won’t be around to see it, but like you say, it’s coming. I also agree with you that now is the time to band together to resist the shift in public support for the sport we love.

With that said, when my next GON decal comes, I will proudly display it on my vehicle. I believe it is time for us to awaken to the change and fight for what we believe in. Let’s make the GON decal a symbol of what we believe. Maybe GON will include two decals next time. As for me, I will display mine. I am not on their payroll and never have been, but I believe you are right in saying “a storm is coming.”

Alton Powell,

Chattahoochee Hills
