Birder Was Missing Fall Doves, Songbirds

Dear GON,

As I write this email on Dec. 20, I have not seen any doves at the farm I have permission to hunt on. As a matter of fact, I have not had any migratory songbirds in my backyard this fall.

I am a “birder” and have multiple feeders in my backyard on the river. This time of the year, I am constantly filling the feeders. I wonder if any of your other GON readers are experiencing this?

David Earl Tyre, Jesup

Editor’s Note: David, great observation and we appreciate you sending your discovery. So far, we’ve heard a few complaints, but not a consistent grumble from dove hunters or bird watchers about migratory bird numbers being down this fall or winter.

Mike and Carol Shirley, of Clarkesville, sent in this picture and said, “We had this beautiful white squirrel visit during the January 2022 snow!”
