Oconee WMA Grows By Almost 1,400 New Acres

Oconee WMA in Greene and Hancock counties had an additional 1,390 acres in three tracts of land added to the already 4,800 acres available to hunters. According to WRD, the tracts are populated with a variety of wildlife inhabiting a mixture of hardwoods and planted pine stands, along with some large pasture areas.

Hunters can immediately begin pursuing small game under current Oconee WMA regulations through Feb. 28. Several opportunities to hunt turkey are available in the spring. See the current hunting regulations for more information.

Hunters must have a valid hunting license, a big-game license if hunting turkey this spring or deer next season and a current deer-harvest record if hunting deer. A WMA license is required to hunt Oconee or any WMA.
