Lake Eufaula Fishing Report September 2016
GON Staff | August 30, 2016
Eufaula: Level: 2 feet below 190 full pool. Temp: 86-89 degrees. Clarity: Light stain.
Bass: Tournament angler David Lowery reports, “Fishing has slowed down a bit. Try frogs around pads and grass early. Spro Popping Frogs seem to work the best, but also try a buzzbait. After the sun gets up, move out to the deep ledges, and try a Big Bite Baits B2 worm in green pumpkin or junebug. A crankbait will catch them when they are generating water. A new Big Bite Baits 5-inch swimbait called a Suicide Shad can be fished on the ledges, too. Also, there should be a flipping bite in the grass starting soon. When that gets going, try a heavy weight and a Big Bite Baits 5-inch Fighting Frog and punch grass mats.” Tournament angler Les Bratcher reports, “The bass at Lake Eufaula are still in the summer pattern—deep. Most anglers are catching fish on the ledges. There are several ways to attack them, with worms, drop shots, crankbaits and big spoons. The bite is better when there is current in the lake, so check the generation schedules to look for prime times. The group of guys who fish at night have been reporting good catches during the wee hours of the morning while most of us sleep. Remember tight lines, and with fall on the way, things will change and get better.”
