Hero Service Members Enjoy Annual Georgia SCI Veterans Deer Hunt
Trevor Santos | December 21, 2021
The Georgia Chapter of Safari Club International (SCI) was proud to host Georgia veterans and family members for its annual Veterans Deer Hunt on Dec. 5 in Cedartown. Some of the veterans had never hunted, and others had never experienced success on a deer hunt.
After a warm welcome and introductions, veterans were treated to lunch, an educational and safety briefing from DNR game wardens, and then they headed for the shooting range where they familiarized themselves with the rifle they would be hunting with that afternoon.
The Wallace family, owners of Adventure Outdoors in Smyrna, have continued their support of the Georgia Chapter of SCI and our hero veterans by kindly opening the gates to their private hunting property, allowing the veterans an incredible hunting opportunity.
“Adventure Outdoors and the Wallace family is proud to host such an event supporting our Vets. Giving this opportunity to make memories afield is what we’re all about,” said Eric Wallace, General Manager of Adventure Outdoors. “Thank you to the Georgia Chapter of SCI and all who were involved to make this day such a success!”
For years, Adventure Outdoors has been a steadfast supporter of the Georgia Chapter of SCI and its veteran-related hunting events. Adventure Outdoors is also a longtime supporter of GON, including sponsorship of GON’s Youth Big-Buck Contest.
Thanks to the Wallace Family, veterans were treated with first-class hunting accommodations, enjoying a guided hunt in a roomy box blind. The afternoon was filled with fun and fellowship, plenty of deer, and success with five out of six hunters harvesting their first deer. The Deer Cooler Wild Game Processing in Cedartown is processing all of the deer, and the meat will be returned to the hunters and their families for consumption.
The Georgia Chapter of SCI is committed to thanking and supporting our veterans and active military and their families.
“No matter how often we do these events, it is always something incredibly satisfying to be giving back,” said Lester Richardson, a veteran and a Georgia SCI Board Member. “There is no doubt in my mind that this is an incredibly powerful experience for the new hunters and the hunting mentors alike, who give so freely of their time and expertise. We extend a heartfelt thanks to all, especially to the Wallace family. This isn’t work or a chore, this is a calling, and we are proud to do it.”
The day was made possible by numerous volunteers from Georgia SCI, the Wallace family and Adventure Outdoors, The Deer Cooler Wild Game Processing, Georgia DNR and our hero service members.
