2021-22 GON Youth Big-Buck Contest

Weekly prizes for kids and a shot at a $3,000 shopping spree and an outdoor weekend.

GON Staff | August 26, 2021

How does a special big-buck contest just for kids sound? How about we throw in a great grand prize package that includes a $3,000 shopping spree at Adventure Outdoors, along with an outdoor weekend for hunting deer and hogs and fishing at Woods-N-Water Outfitters.

Thanks to our great sponsors, another youngster will win that grand prize.

The winner of the 2020-21 contest Shoot-Out, Holden Hines, 14, used his $3,000 shopping spree at Adventure Outdoors to collect a new deer rifle and a shotgun from Eric Wallace.

Eric Wallace (left) with Adventure Outdoors was on hand when GON’s 2019 Youth Big-Buck Contest winner Easton Withrow got his $3,000 shopping spree at Adventure Outdoors. For starters, Easton chose this .308 Kimber Mountian Ascent rifle topped with a Vortex scope.

Plus, each weekly winner—all 17 weeks of Georgia’s deer season—also earns a Rugged Road Outdoors 30-Can Soft Cooler ($149.99 retail), and an awesome LockedOn 360 Mobile Gun Vise ($169 retail)—a super tool for safe and more effective hunting for all ages, but especially kids. Plus, each youth weekly winner gets a personalized Realtree Shoot-Out jersey.

Woods-N-Water owner Blaine Burley works 365 days a year on his wildlife, and it pays off big time. He has been a GON Youth Big-Buck contest sponsor for many years.

The Youth Big-Buck Contest is conducted through the Truck-Buck contest. There is no separate entry process. All kids 15 and younger who enter bucks through Truck-Buck are also automatically entered in GON’s Youth Big-Buck Contest. One membership, one entry process—entry into two separate contests.

The key is that the youth or a parent must have a GON subscription 24 hours before the buck is killed. The contests are a huge perk for GON member families. We have dozens of parents each season who try to subscribe and get a young hunter entered after a buck is killed, but at that point it’s too late to participate.

During the Shoot-Out, Chris Sagar with 4-H is our official gun handler. Kids compete in the Shoot-Out with a Daisy 499B Champion BB gun. It’s the same gun used across the nation in 4-H competitions. For more on the 4-H Project S.A.F.E. program, go to www.georgia4h.org/safe.

The entry process is simple. Go to www.gon.com, fill out an online entry and upload three pictures. Another great bonus of our Youth Big-Buck Contest is that kids entered in the contest have a great chance of their picture being published in GON.
