Bear With Quadruplet Cubs
GON Staff | October 1, 2011

Getting a leg-up on the two-bear limit? David Devlin got this photo and several others of a mama bear and four cubs making a visit to the porch of his cabin in Fannin County the afternoon of July 31. With reproduction like this, it’s no wonder bear populations are booming in north Georgia.
WRD Biologist Brent Womack said it was another good year for bear reproduction in north Georgia, and he’s heard several reports of sows with two or three cubs. “Four is not real common, but it’s not out of the question,” he said. Looks like the new two-bear limit for north Georgia black bears was just in time to save some garbage cans and backyard birdfeeders in years to come. Brent reminded hunters that it’s illegal to shoot sows with cubs or bears that weigh less than 75 pounds.
