Georgia’s Greatest Whitetails Coming To Outdoor Blast
This exclusive display by Duncan Dobie will include the Buck Ashe deer, Georgia's No. 1 typical of all-time.
GON Staff | August 17, 2021
Ever wondered how in the world a typical-framed Georgia buck could net 191 4/8 inches? Come see for yourself! Only three more days until the doors open at the LakePoint Sports Champions Center in Emerson for the start of a three-day weekend gathering for sportsmen known as the Outdoor Blast.
The Ag-Pro GON Outdoor Blast, presented by Georgia Drives Chevy and sponsored by Apex Hunting Competitions and GON, returns for the 14th year with new location in a significantly larger venue. That means more vendors, including lots of new ones who couldn’t attend before because the show always sold out of vendor booths. This year’s hunting and fishing show will take place Aug. 20-22. Doors open at 1 p.m. on Friday. Again this year during the Outdoor Blast we give away a gun every hour to a show attendee—no raffle tickets to buy.
The Buck Ashe deer, Georgia No. 1 typical of all-time, will be part of Duncan Dobie’s “Georgia Greatest Whitetails,” a brand new feature at the 2021 Ag-Pro GON Outdoor Blast. The Buck Ashe deer is just one of the famous bucks from Georgia deer hunting history that will be part of this display for 2021.
Duncan Dobie is the author of numerous outdoor-related books and is a regular contributor to GON magazine. He’s also a former editor at North American Whitetail magazine. Over the years Duncan has written the hunt stories for many of the best bucks ever taken in Georgia. Duncan will be there in person at the Georgia’s Greatest Whitetails display to talk to hunters, and he will be offering autographed copies of many of his popular books.
Other famous bucks scheduled to be part of the 2021 Georgia’s Greatest Whitetails display include:
The Gene Almond Buck: This Newton County 11-pointer killed in 1966 netted an amazing 184 inches even.
Cy Smith’s Twiggs County Booner: This 1970 12-point buck netted 179 1/8.
Spunky Thornton’s Putnam Phantom: An 11-pointer from Putnam County taken in 1983 just north of Eatonton by Spunky Thornton. The buck netted 172 2/8.
Lamar Darley Buck: An 18-point non-typical, this Decatur County giant netted 208 3/8 inches and is a must-see rack.
