9th Annual Coyote Cull Winners Announced
The 2022 effort again saw great participation.
GON Staff | July 26, 2022
The purpose and goal of GON’s Coyote Cull effort is to bring awareness to the impacts of coyotes on fawn and turkey poult survival rates, which have plummeted since non-native, invasive coyotes became established across Georgia.
We always say this isn’t about the number of coyotes entered, but this season did produce the second-highest total ever with 153 despite the crazy heat.
For every Coyote Cull entry received by GON before the July 15 deadline, the name of the hunter or trapper was put on the chart that appears on the opposite page. Entrants are listed alphabetically by county. The 153 entries begin with Rodney Mullis and his first Bacon County coyote entry as No. 1, and end with Larry Walters and his Worth County entry as No. 153. Then using a random number generator (we use Random.org), the computer picks the four winners.
In the random drawing of all entries, here are the winners:
• Leupold Mark 5 CF-440 Radian Kit: The winner of the Leupold Mark 5 CF-440 Tripod Kit is Josh Jarrard, of Rabun County, who entered with a Rabun County coyote.
This tripod is built for versatility. It is rugged but with a lightweight design that’s ready to go anywhere. The Mark 5 is built to mount to a rifle, and it is perfect for competition and predator hunters. This prize from Kenzie’s Optics features 25mm, three-section carbon legs, a ball head that adjusts smoothly to any position, and twist-lock leg adjustment. This tripod retails for $999.99. For more information and to thank our Coyote Cull sponsor, please visit kenziesoptics.com.
• Franchi Momentum Elite Varmint Rifle: The winner of the Franchi Momentum Elite Varmint Rifle is Chad Hiers, of Quitman, who entered with a Brooks County coyote.
Adventure Outdoors has been a longtime supporter of GON, and they again joined with Franchi to allow us to give away a Franchi rifle, Franchi’s new bolt-action release that features a new stock designed specifically for varmint hunting. The suggested retail price of this rifle is $899. Visit www.adventureoutdoors.us and franchiusa.com.
• Trinity Custom Homes $500 Cash: The winner of $500 cash from Trinity Custom Homes is Erik Hallmark, of Douglasville, who entered with a Carroll County coyote.
Offering more than 70 customizable home designs, Trinity has helped countless Southerners complete their dream of building on their own land. A longtime GON advertiser, Trinity has sponsored the Cull since day one. Call 888.818.0278 or visit TrinityCustom.com.
• Bullet HP Complete Game Calling System: The winner of the Bullet HP from Convergent Hunting Solutions is Pat Westmoreland, of Lula, who entered with a Banks County coyote that he said was a female about ready to drop a litter of pups.
The Bullet HP is a hunter-designed bluetooth speaker that runs via a smartphone app with a vast library of predator calls. The system also includes a Picatinny Phone Mount, a free mobile app, and a camo carry bag. Go to YouTube and search Bullet HP At Work.
