9th Annual Coyote Cull Winners Announced

The 2022 effort again saw great participation.

GON Staff | July 26, 2022

A hen with five poults was a regular on trail-cam in this Morgan County food plot, but not a single turkey picture has been taken since this July 6 image.

The purpose and goal of GON’s Coyote Cull effort is to bring awareness to the impacts of coyotes on fawn and turkey poult survival rates, which have plummeted since non-native, invasive coyotes became established across Georgia.

We always say this isn’t about the number of coyotes entered, but this season did produce the second-highest total ever with 153 despite the crazy heat.

For every Coyote Cull entry received by GON before the July 15 deadline, the name of the hunter or trapper was put on the chart that appears on the opposite page. Entrants are listed alphabetically by county. The 153 entries begin with Rodney Mullis and his first Bacon County coyote entry as No. 1, and end with Larry Walters and his Worth County entry as No. 153. Then using a random number generator (we use Random.org), the computer picks the four winners.

In the random drawing of all entries, here are the winners:

• Leupold Mark 5 CF-440 Radian Kit: The winner of the Leupold Mark 5 CF-440 Tripod Kit is Josh Jarrard, of Rabun County, who entered with a Rabun County coyote.

Josh Jarrard with one of two Rabun County coyotes he entered in the the 2022 effort.

This tripod is built for versatility. It is rugged but with a lightweight design that’s ready to go anywhere. The Mark 5 is built to mount to a rifle, and it is perfect for competition and predator hunters. This prize from Kenzie’s Optics features 25mm, three-section carbon legs, a ball head that adjusts smoothly to any position, and twist-lock leg adjustment. This tripod retails for $999.99. You should consider a year long coyote cull as the numbers are growing in south georgia.
