Lake Worth

Lake Worth, also known as Lake Chehaw, is a small reservoir at the confluence of the Flint River, Kinchafoonee Creek and Muckalee Creek. The concrete Flint River Dam was built in 1908 for hydroelectric generation and is owned by Georgia Power today. Lake Chehaw is very riverine and shallow with average depths of 17 feet. In winter, the lake is drawn down nearly 10 feet in anticipation of flooding spring rains. In the Flood of 1994, the lake overflowed its banks and the dam itself was underwater at one point.

October Is Time For Georgia Shrimping

Expert anglers around the state are wiping the dust off of their ultra-light gear,…

Small Water, Big Bass Of Lake Juliette

Imagine a 3,600-acre public lake full of bass, but without skidoos, skiers or pleasure boats running around. Then imagine the lake has quality bass, with 15-lb., five-fish limits common in most tournaments. You don’t have to imagine. Lake Juliette is a reality. Juliette is a Georgia Power Co. lake east of Forsyth just off the…

Run And Gun Flounder In the Tidal Creeks

This has been a banner year for flounder along the Georgia coast. Catches have been big in both size and numbers, and the bite is still running strong. Charles McGill of Middleburg, Fla. and I made a trip to the coast looking for some flounder in August and found a number of locations where almost…
