Lake Jackson
Lake Jackson is one of the oldest reservoirs in the United States. Jackson has transitioned from a trophy largemouth bass lake to lots more spotted bass making up the bass catch. Crappie fishing is good on Jackson, and the lake is home to some huge catfish. The Lloyd Shoals Dam was built in 1910 by Central Georgia Power Company, and electricity was originally generated for the city of Macon. At 4,750 acres, Lake Jackson is small compared to other Georgia reservoirs.

Jackson: Level: 0.2 feet below 528. Temp: High 50s. Clarity: Clear. Bass: Tournament angler Willie McMullen said rising water will spread out fish, but they will be around bait. Use your electronics to find bait, and fish the area with underspins and jerkbaits. Deeper rock banks and docks are good places to start. Brown/green-pumpkin jigs and soft plastics will catch fish on rocks and docks, as will shad and crawfish crankbaits. This is an odd December with water rising rather than falling. Be patient on those tough days. Keep your bait wet until you find fish.” Lake Jackson Page: Archived Articles, News & Fishing Reports

My first trip to Lake Jackson was in April of 2000. I was filming tournament pro Eric Perkins and GON editor Daryl Kirby for GON-TV. Right off the bat Eric caught a 4-lb. largemouth on a Bang-O-Lure. The bite never stopped. All day bass hit Flukes, spinnerbaits, worms, jigs, whatever hit the water. It was…
Two men are dead after two different nighttime, head-on boat collisions at Lake Jackson. The first accident occurred Friday night, April 14, at 10:20 p.m., and it involved two bass boats, one of which was competing in a Friday night pot tournament. According to Law Enforcement Col. Terry West, who cited an interview with the…
April is the time of year to be on Georgia’s lakes in search of slab-sized crappie. The fish can be caught using a variety of methods including trolling with minnows, pitching jigs to brush or even fishing bridge pilings. However, if you crappie fish any Georgia reservoir, especially those with lots of docks, shooting jigs…
I just couldn’t believe it. It was early April, the water temperature was in the high 60s and Rick Howard of Warner Robins wanted to troll in 30 feet of water to try and show me a Jackson crappie. I thought, shouldn’t we be in the backs of the pockets looking for a shallow bite?…
Lake Jackson is an excellent choice for a December trip if you want to catch a mixture of largemouths and spotted bass. The populations of both seem to be on an upswing this year, and they are easy to pattern this month. A typical December trip will produce several largemouth up to 5 pounds and…
