Lake Jackson

Lake Jackson is one of the oldest reservoirs in the United States. Jackson has transitioned from a trophy largemouth bass lake to lots more spotted bass making up the bass catch. Crappie fishing is good on Jackson, and the lake is home to some huge catfish. The Lloyd Shoals Dam was built in 1910 by Central Georgia Power Company, and electricity was originally generated for the city of Macon. At 4,750 acres, Lake Jackson is small compared to other Georgia reservoirs.

Lake Jackson Fishing Report – May 2025

April 30, 2025

Jackson: Level: 1.1 feet above 528. Temp: Low 70s. Clarity: Clear. Bass: Tournament angler Willie McMullen won an ABA at Jackson near the end of April with 12.27 pounds. He said the last cold front in April pushed the shad spawn back, so it is wide open the beginning of May. Topwater like Spooks and Pop-Rs, along with spinnerbaits and ChatterBaits, are all good. Fish seawalls with rip-rap early in the morning when you see any activity from birds or fish. Move quickly to find action. It lasts only until the sun gets on the water. Cloudy days push the feeding a little longer. Later in the day, look for bream beds and cast a wacky-rigged worm or topwater to them for quality, bass-eating bream. Boat traffic will get worse as the month progresses, so early mornings will be the best times to go. If fishing during the heat of…

Probe Points For Lake Jackson Postspawn Bass

May can be a magical month for Georgia bass fishermen. The weather has settled down into hot days, but the winds and storms of spring are mostly over. And the bass have settled down, too. They are bunching up on structure and feeding, and they are in predictable patterns. Lake Jackson is an excellent place…

Batson On Catching Lake Jackson Bass In April

My first trip to Lake Jackson was in April of 2000. I was filming tournament pro Eric Perkins and GON editor Daryl Kirby for GON-TV. Right off the bat Eric caught a 4-lb. largemouth on a Bang-O-Lure. The bite never stopped. All day bass hit Flukes, spinnerbaits, worms, jigs, whatever hit the water. It was…

Deadly Easter Weekend On Lake Jackson

Two men are dead after two different nighttime, head-on boat collisions at Lake Jackson. The first accident occurred Friday night, April 14, at 10:20 p.m., and it involved two bass boats, one of which was competing in a Friday night pot tournament. According to Law Enforcement Col. Terry West, who cited an interview with the…

Bullseye Crappie At Lake Jackson

April is the time of year to be on Georgia’s lakes in search of slab-sized crappie. The fish can be caught using a variety of methods including trolling with minnows, pitching jigs to brush or even fishing bridge pilings. However, if you crappie fish any Georgia reservoir, especially those with lots of docks, shooting jigs…

Shoot Docks Or Troll For A Lake Jackson Crappie Stringer

I just couldn’t believe it. It was early April, the water temperature was in the high 60s and Rick Howard of Warner Robins wanted to troll in 30 feet of water to try and show me a Jackson crappie. I thought, shouldn’t we be in the backs of the pockets looking for a shallow bite?…
