Denney, Curl Win State Kids’ Top Six

Fishing together, both take wins and big fish in their divisions.

Mark Denney Jr. weighed in a 10.6-lb. sack to win the 11- to 14-year-old division. His 6.11-lb. kicker took big-fish honors.

Pouring rain didn’t hinder the Georgia Bass Chapter Federation Youth Top-Six Championship held April 5 at Lake Sinclair. Fishing from the same boat, Brandon Curl of the Bryan County Jr. Bassmasters won the 15- to 18-year-old age group with 10.67 pounds, and Mark Denney Jr. of Central Georgia Bassmasters weighed in 10.6 pounds to win the 11- to 14-year-old age group. Both anglers also took big-fish honors for their age divisions. Mark’s kicker weighed 6.11 pounds, and Brandon’s tipped the scales at 5.02 pounds. Both will now move on to the Junior World Championship to be held at Lake Monticello, S.C. Aug. 15-16.

With 10.01 pounds, Josh Tucker of the North Georgia Jr. Bass Anglers took second in the 11-14 division. Shae Smith of Jr. Bass Busters of Conyers weighed in 5.23 pounds to take third.

Second place in the 15-18 division went to Anthony Lively of The Hill Jr. Bassmasters. Dylan Peppers, the 2007 world champ, of the Jr. Bass Busters of Conyers took third with 7.94 pounds.

For team scores, The Jr. Bass Busters of Conyers took the state title for the second year running. The team weighed in 19 fish that went 23.36 pounds. The Hill Jr. Bassmasters took second with 12 fish weighing 18.63 pounds. Third place went to the Central Georgia Jr. Bassmasters with nine fish weighing 14.42 pounds.

Brandon Curl won the 15- to 18-year-old age group and took big fish. He weighed in 10.67 pounds with a 5.02-lb. kicker.
