West Point Fishing Report, From The Bank — April 7, 2024

Ronnie Garrison | April 8, 2024

Jeremiah Giles said the river run below West Point dam is wide open. He’s been catching linesides from the bank.

Jeremiah Giles reports, “On West Point, the bass fishing is good. Last week’s trip I caught them up shallow in 10 feet on creature baits and crankbaits. The better colors were green pumpkin and anything with chartreuse in it. A white ChatterBait and a small shaky head fished along any shoreline rock cover did well, too.

“On the other side of the dam in the river, the bass and catfish are both biting. Carp are active if you want to target them, and there’s some crappie to be caught at night. The striper run is in full force right now, and they’ll eat almost anything moving, but a white or pink grub or swimbait have been my lures of choice. Most everyone else is using live bait from shiners to nightcrawlers.

“We have been fishing from the bank a few hundred yards down the river from the dam, but we also caught them busting bait in the lake on the other side of the dam. The water was not clear enough in the actual river after all the rain. It’s a brownish color, but artificial lures did better in the lake where the water visibility was better and more of a greenish tint.”
