West Point Bass Fishing Report – March 14, 2024

Reader Contributed | March 14, 2024

Bass: Guide Keith Hudson reports, “After last week’s heavy rains and the water rising to above full pool briefly, becoming a minefield of debris, the lake is back down to slightly above winter level and pretty heavily stained overall.

You may find some clearer water in the back halves of major creeks as the runoff clears. Also, some of the creeks down the lake are a little clearer. Bigger spots are showing up on chunk rock banks and rip-rap.. Try using red- or crawfish-colored crankbaits and  dark-colored Trick Worms rigged on Magnum Spot Remover heads.

Largemouth are being found on isolated shallow cover and being caught on jigs or worms. There’s also some staging fish already showing on gravel banks. Try a short Carolina-rigged lizard to trick these early spawners.

Our Wednesday, March 13 afternoon tournament took 19.35 pounds to win, and they also had an 8.05-lb. kicker fish. This is only a three-hour tournament, so the big girls are definitely moving in!
