Oconee & Sinclair Crappie Fishing Report – March 26, 2024

Ronnie Garrison | March 27, 2024

Tom Hamlin is more recognized for his bass-fishing accomplishments, but he really enjoys catching big slab crappie on Sinclair and Oconee.

Tom Hamlin reports, “We are just a few warm days away before crappie heading to the shallows. At Sinclair, fish bright-colored jigs under popping cork about  2 1/2 feet deep. Target the backs of coves. Use a float that will stand up if your 1/32-oz. jig is off bottom. That’s the clue! If your cork is laying over, you are to shallow. The fish at Sinclair bed 2 to 4 feet deep.

“On Oconee, you need to set your cork depth about 18 inches. They bed shallower at Oconee. With Oconee being almost half again larger than Sinclair, the water doesn’t drop as low during the generation process as Sinclair. I recommend fishing the upper ends of both lakes, but as the water warms, move down the lakes in the next couple weeks.”
