Lake Weiss Fishing Report – September 2018

GON Staff | September 4, 2018

Weiss: Level: 0.3 foot below full pool. Temp: Mid 80s. Clarity: Light stain.

Bass: Guide and tournament angler Mike Carter reports, “Lake Weiss has been extremely tough due to the hotter weather conditions. The upside of this is that fall months and cooler weather is approaching, and this lake can get absolutely turned on when this starts up. The most consistent patterns during these months ahead is taking Echo crankbaits and just covering as much water as possible to find the more active fish. Look for areas that have rocky and stumpy points close to deep water. Those can be the most productive areas. The Weiss bass during this time of year can really stack up in these areas and can make for a fantastic trip on this lake. The topwater and shallow bite will also pick up more consistently. Use Choo Choo buzzbaits, StutterSteps topwaters and Bull Shad swimbaits along seawalls and rip-rap areas. The water level will also start falling during this time, so focusing on the points that I mentioned earlier will be a main pattern to stick with. The water level falling will also make navigating this lake a little tougher. When noticing the changing of the water levels, it can be extremely important to pay very close attention to your GPS to prevent damaging your boat. This is a great time of year to get out and experience this lake and the bass action it can produce.”
