Lake Weiss Fishing Report June 2015

GON Staff | May 28, 2015

Weiss: Level: Full pool. Temp: 79-83 degrees. Clarity: Stained.

Bass:
Good. Capt. Mike Carter reports, “The fishing on Weiss has really turned on, and this lake can be a blast when you get big largemouths and spotted bass combined for a great day of just plain ol’ fun. The main pattern has been covering a lot of water and fishing some of the shallow grass banks that are close to some deep water with Snag Proof Frogs. This pattern is extremely exciting and can produce through the whole day. It works with early morning, late evening, cloudy or even sunny conditions. If covering a lot of grass areas is not your favorite way of fishing, then getting on some of the deep ledges that this lake holds will be your best bet for a good mixed bag of spots and largemouths. This pattern will mainly consist of just slowing down and crawling football-head jigs by Choo Choo Lures in kudzu and green-pumpkin colors, and also using deep crankbaits like the 5XD-6XD in sexy-shad and citrus-shad colors. The night fishing on this lake can be extremely exciting, and now is the time to get out and experience it, especially when you have some of the monster spots this lake holds that will absolutely hammer your Choo Choo Lures spinnerbait. Please take care of your fish by taking a picture and releasing it back.”

Crappie:
Fair. Guide Mark Collins reports, “The crappie have spawned. Most fish that have spawned have moved back to deeper water to cover on the bottom. Spider rigging with live minnows over cover in 8 to 12 feet of water is producing some good crappie fishing,” Mark said.

Striper:
Poor. “Most of the fish have left the main lake making their spring run up the Coosa River,” Mark said.

Catfish: Good in the deeper flats on cut bait.
