Lake Weiss Fishing Report January 2015

GON Staff | December 23, 2014

Weiss: Level: 5.5 feet below full pool. Temp: 50 degrees. Clarity: Clear to lightly stained.

Bass: Fair. Guide Mark Collins reports, “Bass have moved back to the old creek and river channel ledges. Carolina-rigged plastics, Texas-rigged Senko worms and jigs are producing well right now. The ledges in Little River and the Chattooga River are producing the best.”

Crappie: Great. “They have moved off the ledges and are suspended in the creek and river channels 10 to 15 feet deep,” Mark said. “Long-line trolling with 1/16-oz. Jiffy Jigs in colors JJ08, JJ13, JJ24, JJ41 is the way to catch these winter fish. They can also be caught on a Float-n-Fly technique fished 8 to 12 feet deep.”

Stripers: “Fishing is good, and a lot of stripers have shown up in the main lake over the last few weeks. Slow-trolling live shad or a 1/4-oz. jig with a 3-inch Sassy Shad body is producing some good stripers,” Mark said.

Catfish:
“Fish are biting good in the deeper flats of the lake on cut bait,” Mark said.
